Juniper Hills Country Club
The only private country club in town, Juniper Hills is located on exclusive real estate in southern Pocatello just a few miles south of Riverside Golf Course. By most private course standards, joining the club is relatively inexpensive depending on the desired level of ownership. In addition to golf, the country club offers indoor and outdoor tennis, swimming, dining, and social events.
If you're new to Pocatello and looking for an invitation to play, don't fret. Juniper Hills opens for public play every Monday. The front nine and back nine were developed years apart, evident in their contrasting styles. The front nine, designed by George Von Elm, features traditional tree-lined fairways while the links-style back nine, designed by Billy Casper, brings the Portneuf River and a pair of ponds into play. Though the course isn't long—less than 6,200 yards from the tips—Juniper has a handful of testy holes including the 225-yard par-3 3rd hole; the 500-yard par-5 11th hole, which features out-of-bounds on the left, hazards on the right, and the river cutting through the fairway twice; and finally, the drivable par-4 18th hole, which may very well be the tightest sloped fairway (houses on both sides) you've ever encountered.
